PROPERTY REFURBISHMENT
PLANNED AROUND YOUR SPACE
Plan a Practical Refurbishment
A refurbishment brief should cover more than finishes. Photographs, available drawings, known defects, access constraints and occupancy all help define a practical scope. Establish which rooms are changing and whether the work affects layouts, floors, plumbing, electrics or the building fabric.
Our Refurbishment Services
Property Refurbishment Services in Edinburgh
Work can range from selected room improvements to coordinated changes across a property. The precise scope is assessed for the building and agreed before work begins.
Full Property Renovations
Plan layouts, services and finishes across several rooms. Our flooring service can be coordinated where floor preparation or replacement forms part of the work.
Kitchen and Bathroom Refurbishments
Explore our kitchen renovations and bathroom renovations for room-specific advice on layouts, fixtures, preparation and finishing.
Interior Decoration and Finishing
Coordinate painting and decorating, plastering, joinery and floor finishes around the agreed refurbishment sequence.
Structural and Layout Changes
Layout changes need early assessment because walls, services and approvals may be affected. Discuss architectural plans and design coordination where drawings form part of the project.
Electrical and Plumbing Upgrades
Plan pipe and cable routes before walls and floors are closed. Explore our planned plumbing services. If a wider renovation may include a heat pump, consider the heating and hot-water design early and see Renew-Able Solutions’ heat-pump service.
BUILD IT. RENOVATE IT. MAINTAIN IT.
What Affects Refurbishment Costs?
A meaningful quotation depends on the agreed scope, property condition, access, materials, preparation and the sequence of trades. Opening existing finishes can reveal work that was not visible at the outset.
Define the scope
Clarify what is included, what is excluded, who supplies fixtures and finishes, and which assumptions underpin the proposed programme.
Plan for changes
Agree how additional or changed work will be assessed and approved. Project-specific information is more useful than a standard online price band or completion promise.
THE SCOPE SHOULD REFLECT THE PROPERTY, THE PROPOSED CHANGES AND THE AGREED FINISHES.
Why Plan Your Refurbishment with Build-Able?
Property-Led Planning
We review the existing layout, proposed use, access and visible condition before the refurbishment scope is agreed.
Relevant Trades Coordinated
Where the scope involves several trades, their work can be sequenced around shared dependencies such as services, floors, walls and finishes.
One Connected Scope
Link drawings, preparation, building work and finishing requirements in one written scope so responsibilities and exclusions are clear.
Clear Scope and Programme
Review the proposed sequence, access assumptions and decision points for the actual project. Timescales depend on the agreed works and site conditions.
Checks Before Handover
Agree the finishing details, testing, documentation and any outstanding items that apply to the project before handover.

Alan and the team installed and connected our ground mounted PV system and battery. Having the house run off solar is very satisfying and I would recommend it to anyone, as well as Renew-Able Solutions for the instal. Alan's support post installation has been much appreciated as wellPosted on Google![]()

Alan and the team did a great job advising and installing the best suited battery and ev charger for us. We are now reaping the benefits of cheap, clean energy. He was on hand to help with any issues with configuring our GivEnergy Battery and Zappi charger making them work optimally with my energy provider. Very responsive. I would thoroughly recommend Renew-AblePosted on Google![]()

We were looking for batteries to complement our pv panels since on sunny days we never used all the electricity generated. We are also on off peak for charging our car. Alan was superb. He explained it all clearly, answered all questions knowledgeably and was very comfortable to deal with. The job was done on time, with no fuss and, very importantly, we felt very comfortable having them in the house. Delighted at the battery performance. It not only worked to store solar but we could choose to charge on very low overnight rates to use in daytime. Our electricity bill literally halved from March (pre install) to April (2023). Professional, courteous and very skilled. Subsequently we decided to augment the system with a second battery and again they were flawless in advice, integrating it into the system and commissioning. Now almost two years on from initial installation it is all still working perfectly. What more could you want?Posted on Google![]()

Scope of Our Services
Serving Both Residential and Commercial Sectors
Residential
Residential refurbishment enquiries can include houses and flats. The scope may cover several rooms, layouts, services, preparation and finishing, depending on the property and proposed changes.
Commercial
Commercial refurbishment enquiries can involve occupied or vacant premises. Access, working hours, shared areas, business continuity and the agreed division of responsibilities should be discussed before the work is planned.
Our Process
How We Work
The process begins with the property, the proposed changes and the information available. Each stage should be confirmed against the agreed scope.
Consultation & Planning
Share photographs, available drawings and a summary of the proposed work. Planning permission, building warrants and listed-building considerations are separate and should be checked for the property and proposal. See the City of Edinburgh Council’s householder guidance.
Build & Project Management
Sequence the agreed trades, access and deliveries around the property and any occupancy constraints. Record changes to the scope as the project progresses.
Completion & Handover
Review the agreed work, relevant testing or documentation, finishing details and any outstanding items before handover.

Frequently Asked Questions
These answers cover common starting points. The right approach depends on the property, proposed work and any required permissions.
Not every alteration needs planning permission, but a building warrant or other consent may still be required. Listed buildings and conservation areas can have additional controls. Check the property and proposal with the relevant council or appointed professional before work begins.
Duration depends on the agreed work, approvals, preparation, material availability, access and site conditions. Ask for a programme based on the actual project rather than relying on a standard number of weeks.
This depends on the work area, safe access and availability of essential facilities. Discuss occupancy before agreeing the programme; some projects may need temporary arrangements.
Build-Able accepts enquiries about refurbishment work for houses, flats and commercial premises. Confirm the property, proposed scope and current availability when making an enquiry.
The agreed scope may include layouts, building work, plumbing, electrics, flooring, plastering, decorating and other finishes. Inclusions and exclusions should be recorded for the specific project.
